Some Cards On the Run!

Hi, Friends...getting ready to be gone for a couple of days and wanted to get something new posted before I left. You can't do these cards on the run...my explanation will be on the run!

I tried my hand at one of these 3-D window cards. I loved making it. Just sad that our Coluzzle retired. But the Circle Scissor Plus would make great circles instead. Love the new Razzleberry Lemonade paper. Stamp set is Wings of Friendship, Level 2 Hostess set. (Anyone want to host a workshop...in my home...virtual / catalog?). This set is so sweet. I stamped the image two or three times and layered different parts of it.

This card is so simple. Cut strips, then squares, and mount on layers. I'll add a sentiment later when I know what kind of card I need.

This next one is brayered. Clear embossed Upsy Daisies resist the brayered colors. Rolling the brayer over torn paper gives the jagged edge look.

Gotta run. Thanks so much for taking the time to peek in. Your comments are always so encouraging and uplifting. They make me feel like an upsy daisy!!!

Blessings on your day!

Fun Fold-Out Card

I've always been intrigued by those explosion box albums (I think that's what they're called). I wanted something like that for my clubs, but didn't want anything nearly so involved...after all, there's buying to be done! As it turned out, this ended up being too time consuming for club, but it would make a fantastic class. So I just decided to do the class right here!

I just took the general idea of the box, without quite so many layers and added a flap to close it instead of a lid. I had to make lots of adjustments to get everything to fold and fit the way I wanted. So I've included finished, decorated pictures first, then I backed up to show you how to put it together and gave measurements later.

The final folded card measures 3 x3 and the flap has a magnetized closure. I used a 2-7/8" square piece of designer print to cover this outer panel. The flap has a 1 x 2-3/4 piece of coordinating print, and I rounded the bottom corners. I used the 3-heart punch, both oval punches and the scallop oval punch for outside decorations. The sentiment is from the new set Teeny Tiny messages. It will be a new favorite.

Magnets are great for these types of closures. I purchased mine at Archiver's but they are made by Basic Grey. They are self adhesive on one side.

The picture below shows the first opening. I used the owl from the new stamp, Animal Stories, stamped them in Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry, two of the new SU in-colors. The owls are backed with a Scallop Circled punched from Crushed Curry cardstock.

The lower panel is decorating using corner punches, and punched hearts. The faux stitching is done using the white gel pen from SU.

The next picture shows the bottom panel as it unfolds. It reveals the cross-piece that will also unfold. I just decorated the bottom panel with strips of paper and more hearts. The first flap of the cross piece is decorated with a strip of Melon Mambo polka dot ribbon and three punched flowers using the Trio Flower punch. Again faux stitches on flowers are the gel pen.

Once the outer flap of the cross-piece is unfolded you see the last flap. I decorated it like the previous flap.

When the card is completely unfolded it looks like this (below). You could put pictures or sentiments on any of these panels.

So, let's move to how you make this fold-out card. The 3" x 9" base is made from Melon Mambo. Lay it horizontally and score at 3" and 6" as shown.

Cut a 2-7/8" x 8-1/2" piece from Crushed Curry cardstock and score at 2-7/8" and again at 5-5/4 inches.

Turn the cross-piece (Crushed Curry) over and put strips of adhesive on just the middle panel.

Flip the cross piece over and adhere horizontally to the vertical Melon Mambo piece.

Make any additional trims on the outer right edge of the cross piece to make sure the left flap will fold over the right one. See how the right flap comes inside the score line on the left?

Your two score lines on the cross piece should fit just inside the outer edges of the center panel of the Melon Mambo piece.

Now you are ready to make the flap. Cut a 2-1/2" x 3" piece from Crushed Curry and round corners of one long side as shown. Score at 1" from the long straight edge, then again 1/8" from the first score line (toward the flap side). That score line doesn't show well here.

Put tape on the inside of the 1" portion of the flap as shown. This adheres to the back of the top Melon Mambo piece.

Here's a few of the flap from the back side of the card. You can see the second score line a little better in this photo.

Now turn the whole piece back over and you are ready to decorate the panels as describe at the beginning of the post.

Hope you enjoyed! It's an adorable little project and would make a great mini brag book, or a wonderful interactive addition to a scrapbook page.

As always, thanks for stopping in! Blessings on your day.

Fun with Photography...And a Card!

This spring has brought a menagerie of baby wildlife to our back yard. Earlier in the spring, we noticed a robin's nest in a low-hanging branch of a tree near our back patio. So I started watching with interest. I was amazed at the parents' care of these five little fledglings. They maintained a constant tag-team vigil over their young. These little guys had voracious appetites, and mom and dad never failed to provide. If you click on the pictures, you can get a close up view.

A total of five babies were born when the heat wave just started moving through the Midwest. I was concerned about them, so DH went to Wal-mart and purchased a bird bath. We put it under the shade of the tree.

One morning I saw mom sipping water from the bird bath, then she flew back up to the nest to share a drink of water with her babies. I loved watching the babies stretch their scrawny necks for mother's every provision.

Within a couple of weeks the babies were sitting on the edge of the nest and flapping their wings. The nest is empty now.

We also had a burrow of bunnies. The challenge was continually diverting the attention of our Irish Terrier, Daisy, from the area where they nested. My animal lover hubby built a wire sanctuary around them so mother could easily get in and out, but Daisy was shut out. The little bunnies are roaming our backyard now, so protecting them from her curiosity is getting a bit more challenging!

--------------------------

This past Sunday's service at church was such a blessing. Besides my husband's wonderful sermon (and I'm NOT biased), we had baptismal services for a young son of some of our members and a man who just accepted Christ as Lord as Savior this year. It was truly a day for rejoicing. After the ordinance of baptism was observed, another man who is a new member to our church sang a song performed by Mercy Me called Bring the Rain. I made similar cards for both men to express our thanks and rejoicing for their testimonies.

This scripture stamp, which I just received, comes from Our Daily Bread Designs and is particularly significant for these men. One is beginning a new life of being called out by God, and for the first time in his life will experience the joy of finding purpose through God's grand design.

The gentleman who sang was a powerful testimony to the good that God can work in our lives even through trouble. He lost his wife about two years ago. What a blessing to watch him rejoice in God's providence.

The words of the song, Bring the Rain, by Mercy Me fit his life perfectly. You can see a beautiful video and hear the song HERE.

I can count a million times
People asking me how I
Can praise You with all that I've gone through
The question just amazes me
Can circumstances possibly
Change who I forever am in You
Maybe since my life was changed
Long before these rainy days
It's never really ever crossed my mind
To turn my back on you, oh Lord
My only shelter from the storm
But instead I draw closer through these times
So I pray

Bring me joy, bring me peace
Bring the chance to be free
Bring me anything that brings You glory
And I know there'll be days
When this life brings me pain
But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

I am Yours regardless of
The dark clouds that may loom above
Because You are much greater than my pain
You who made a way for me
By suffering Your destiny
So tell me what's a little rain
So I pray

Holy, holy, holy
Is the Lord God Almighty

Blessings on your day!

Flamingo Fun

As soon as I purchased these Pink Flamingo papers, I had to try putting something together with it. One thing led to another and soon I had a fun little gift ensemble. I can just see fun summer pictures tucked inside the Mini Accordion Folder (CD case base). I really dreaded making my first cuts on the large image papers but I needed a "fussy cut" design for several of the pieces. So I cut!

Here's the front cover sans a main sentiment/title. I'm still thinking about how to pull one off in a way that doesn't cover something delicious on this paper. You may not see it unless you click the image to enlarge, but I hung a Swarovski Crystal heart in hot pink from the front ribbon. WOW does it sparkle when the light hits it just right!

Here are the beginnings of the inside pages....same dilemma. I don't want to cover the paper with anything. I decided since it would be a gift to keep it simple and let them determine what mats to use. I'll include several loose ones of differing sizes that coordinate.

I just love these CD cases and the little pocket that the last page has. Still digging for more Swarovski stick-on crystals. Those are fantastic, though more expensive than what I usually use. Again a little hard to see (I think I had the wrong setting on my camera for these) but I embossed the strip across the removable note card with the small dot texturz plate, then sanded a little to lighten the dot for an accent. Definitely needs more bling somewhere....

This is the matching card, and I almost couldn't bring myself to make this fussy cut. That flamingo was perfect for the front of the card...but he was over almost to the center of the paper. Isn't he adorable...and I'm not even a flamingo person. Of course, you recognize the daisies. Was using them on everything when I made this set a couple months ago. I think it needs a big fat sparkling hot pink rhinestone right in the middle of the flower.

The last two parts of the ensemble are actually finished pieces. I took a nifty little frame class at Archivers on National Scrapbook Saturday. I bought extras, came home and immediately put this one together. That's actually what sparked the other parts of the ensemble. Once I started using the flamingo paper, I couldn't stop! The metal pieces on the sides hinge open releasing the two acrylic plates and you just slide your picture inside. I think the frames were about $7.

Last is the much-used-in-my-craftroom matchbox die cut box. I loved it wearing these bright colors. I think I'll look for more beads and whip up a pair of dangly earrings to go inside!

I came to two conclusions in making these: 1) I have to buy more Pink Flamingo paper...lots more, and 2) bling is good...really good!

As always, I thank you so much for stopping by and leaving comments. I'm only about half-way through my blog hopping for this week...but I can't wait to see what the rest of you have done.

Blessings on your day!

Celebrating Family

This time of year offers many reasons for our family to celebrate. My mother and dad's birthdays come early in the month (they turned 82). Of course, there's Father's Day and my parents also celebrate their anniversary in June. So while we're celebrating, I'm busy making cards!

Here's my dad's Father's Day card. It's a 5-1/4" square card of Sahara Sand layered with a 5" square piece of designer print from To the Nines (SU). The 1-1/4" x 5" strip is the reverse of the same print. I used the stamp set Wanted (#115106) which made it into the new catty!

I inked the medallion stamp with VersaMark first, then immediately inked over that with Always Artichoke and stamped the image on Sahara Sand. Then I sprinkled clear embossing powder (LOVE SU powder...it's really the best because it's so fine), and heat embossed the image for a glossy look. I did the same technique with the horse but used Basic Brown ink. The sentiment comes from a new set called Teeny Tiny Wishes (#115370, set of 24), that is just fabulous. I'm sure it will be one of my favorites.

Here's the inside of his card.

This is the card for my parents' anniversary. This year they celebrate 64 years together.

The paper is from SU Designer Series Flock Together (#114018) which also made it back into the new catty! Yippee! I used a portion of the die cut branch from Birds and Branches die (#114529), and stamped these adorable little bird-owl guys from the new set called Animal Stories (#116716), available July 1 from the new SU Idea Book and Catalog.

The little birds are adhered with dimensionals. Aren't they just too cute? And here's the inside sentiment (click picture to enlarge). I usually create my own inside sentiments for personal cards and most of the class cards I design. I'm going to publish a downloadable e-book of my sentiments here later this fall.

The next card showcases a set that is in Occasions Mini catalog that is current until June 30. I love this set (Garden Scene). It's so versatile. This card is for my DH's parents for a combined belated mother's day card (I know, isn't that awful), and a current Father's Day card.

I was really happy with the way the cut out piece worked, but when I was stamping the first images on the Very Vanilla image piece, I smeared the ink. So I used the speckle background stamp, Itty Bitty Backgrounds (#114996) as a cover up (a frequently-used technique, I might add!). So it wasn't quite what I had envisioned, but it needed to go out in the mail, so I resisted the urge to start all over.

Hope your Father's Day Sunday is a blessed celebration spent with family. May you delight in earthly relationships but may your joy be complete as you celebrate the relationship you have with your heavenly Father through Jesus Christ, His Son. I'd invite you to visit Women to Women: Sharing Jesus and read Jane's great devotion for Father's Day!

And we have seen and testify that the Father
has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.
If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God,
God lives in him and he in God.
And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.
1 John 4:14-16

Blessings on your weekend!

Latest Club Designs

I always enjoy my hostess clubs so much. These ladies are avid stampers and are always so enthusiastic and encouraging. It's fun coming up with projects for them. Here are the most recent projects we made.

This card uses the Trendy Trees set that I just love. The grass is made by tearing the long edge of two pieces of Walk in the Park designer papers and inking them. The trees are stamped then cut out and mounted with dimensionals. These little clouds came from a long-ago retired stamp set. My inspiration came from a card by Amy Sheffer.

The inside was as fun to decorate as the outside. We just used the left-over torn edges for the inside grass, stamped one or more trees, clouds and a sentiment.

I'm really getting hooked on CAS cards. Most ladies love having a few samples of cards that can be put together quickly. This card is soooo easy. I thought the inspiration for this card and the next one came from Kristy Lee at Cupcake Martini, but I couldn't find the link for this first one. So perhaps I saw it elsewhere. If anyone knows, let me know and I'll edit to insert the link.

ETA: Woohoo! The inspiration came from LeAnne's blog, Wee Inklings! YES! That's the card that inspired me and look at the one just above it on LeAnne's blog. It's gorgeous! I think it's called Paris in the spring, but it's just above her inspiration card. But I loved this layout below from her too! Thanks, LeAnne, for the marvelous inspiration! If you haven't visited her blog, you are in for a treat!

The last card was definitely inspired by Kristie and I just love her simple, and simply beautiful style. Making these sponged faux mats was new to me and I just love the technique.

I created the mask by using a piece of cardstock that was the same size as the top layer of the finished card. I punch two squares (side by side) to create a rectangular opening. I laid that on top of the card layer and just sponged in the opening. That creates this wonderfully soft mat, and you can stamp right on top of it, or layer for dimension. The finished card is simple, but I loved the outcome.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by. Your comments always encourage!

Just for Fun Cards

I'm not really sure why I love these little Riley the Moose stamps from Hanna Stamps so much, but I think they are so cute. A good friend and I spent a recent afternoon just stamping off a bunch of images and coloring them in with Copics. It was therapy for us both. I made a couple of cards from my batch.

This one is for my sister. It seems like every time I talk to her she is doing ironing (I don't iron-- only on an as-needed basis!). So when I saw this Riley I knew I had to make a card and send to her. If she keeps up all that ironing, I may have to send another one!

This card was one I made for my mother's 82nd birthday, celebrated last week. Her birthday present from me was a gift card for knitting classes and for the yarn to make the project. We will take the classes together and will be making an Einstein sweater. It's so cute, but it's a lot of knitting. Maybe in a year, I'll show you my finished project!

Here's the inside...

Thanks for stopping by...I love having you here!

Blessings!

3-D Curly Daisy

I've been seeing several of these 3-D daisies around and wanted to try my hand at one. I made the daisy cluster first, and the card design just came together. I love the Daisy die from Stampin' Up! I'm amazed at it's versatility. I cut out two daisies of each of the three sizes, blending two colors--here I used Pretty in Pink and Regal Rose. I inked the tips of the daisies while they were still flat, then curled them with my bone folder, using a similar technique as you would when curling ribbon.

The button in the center (from Button Bouquet, which is now retired) just has a little piece of Pretty in Pink ribbon tied through it, knotted once. The rest is pretty obvious. Top Note die piece is from the hostess patterned paper pack, layer #1 is Regal Rose (4 x 5-1/4), on a Pretty in Pink card base. I used the slot punch on either side of the top note piece and ran the 5/8" Regal Rose grosgrain through the slots, tying in a square knot as you see here.

As you can tell from the side view, this would be a bit of a problem to mail, but hopefully would get a few oooohs and aaaaahs as it's hand delivered. And that way, you get to hear them!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving your comments. You make my day! I need to spend my weekend blog hopping and drooling over all your creations!

Blessings,

Fold Out Photo Album

This project has been such a hit! The unique way this 7-panel photo album flips and folds makes it a fun interactive album. The secret is in the construction of the base mat. From there, the decorating is a breeze.

This project planner is available for purchase here for a limited time. It includes a list of all supplies and tools, my unique visual cutting guides, and step-by-step, full-color, tutorial type photos of each panel, the construction of the base mat and the finished product. Following are some samples of the 10-page planner. Click on images to enlarge.

Here's a composite of the finished product.

The cover just invites you to peek inside, doesn't it? Closed photo album measures 6" x 6".

Here's a close up of the 3-D front cover image.

Here's a peek of the first fold out.

From these pictures you can see six panels, but where is the 7th? That's the secret in the way it folds and flips. There are two flips you are not seeing here, but it's clearly explained in the planner.

You might be able to replicate this project from the photos, but why strain to figure it all out? Just order your planner today and start your stress-free project right away. Cutting sizes are also stated in written directions for those of you who wouldn't use the visual cutting guide (PSue...you know who you are!!! LOL)
